Well, to say this summer has been a busy one for Team Toba would definitely be an understatement! After our Academic and Debate teams were selected at the end of April, we jumped right into a whirlwind of events this summer, starting with our summer case course sessions, one each month. These sessions brought the academic teams together to learn more about case presentations, and to become better acquainted with the other members of Team Toba.

June 1 marked the start of the JDC West charity component, and Team Toba was very excited to get their hours started. A huge thanks goes out to our VP Charity, Christine Sheppard for her work organizing our charity shifts with our five partner charities: United Way of Winnipeg, Cystic Fibrosis Canada (Shinerama), Winnipeg Harvest, True North Youth Foundation, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Winnipeg. Events such as the Fast and Furious Feast, Flatlander’s, and Super Spike were great opportunities for many team members to fulfill volunteer hours while having a great time getting to know their teammates!

June also marked our first tryouts for our athletics and social teams, where we picked a partial team. Tryout number 2 for athletics and social happened in August, where we selected our final members of Team Toba 2019! Yes that’s right, you heard that correct, Team Toba 2019 is now complete!

So what comes next? Well, we are very excited to kick of September with some great events such as our Corporate Partners’ Wine & Cheese, Network & Grill, and Social Retreat, as well as take on the September Madness volunteer hours that await! We can’t wait to watch our teams start their weekly practices to get whipped into shape (both mentally and physically) for the competition.

Summer has been awesome, but we can’t wait for school to start next week so we can see our team every single day as we watch them learn and grow throughout the next four and a half months.
